• A FUN PLACE! You'll have a great time, make new friends, and learn new skills. Some of the things you can do at Camp Downer include swimming, canoeing, crafts, drama, shooting sports, outdoor living and more.
• LEARNING BY DOING! You'll take part in campfires, skits, games, and dances. As you help out with camp duties, you'll find that work is fun when everyone pitches in to get the job done. You'll also have free time; for walks, games, singing, or just sitting around and learning about your new friends.
• FOR BOYS AND GIRLS! Ages 8 to 17 years old (the two week session is only for campers who are at least 11 years old). You don't have to be a Vermont resident to attend Camp Downer. In fact, we have campers who have come from many different states as well as countries like Great Britain and Germany. There are more than 140 campers during each session.
• LOCATED IN DOWNER STATE FOREST! A beautiful, natural 800-acre setting, Camp Downer is located between Sharon and South Strafford, Vermont. Camp Downer has a swimming pool, a pond for canoeing, fourteen cabins, a recreation hall, a dining hall, a crafts building, a nature cabin, a sports field, an archery range, and more.
• STAFFED BY DEDICATED PERSONNEL! A director, assistant director, office personnel, program directors, a health care practitioner, kitchen staff, maintenance staff, and many counselors. One or more counselors live in each cabin with the campers.
• OPEN FOR EIGHT WEEKS EACH SUMMER! Each summer there are six one-week sessions and one two-week session. Most campers stay for one session, but you are welcome to return for as many sessions as you would like.
The Vermont State Employees Credit Union graciously donated $4,000 to Camp Downer towards the construction of a new $100,000 swimming pool, which opened in June 2007 with the beginning of the camp season. The Vermont State Employees Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative serving Vermonters since 1947. The Credit Union offers a full range of financial products and services to our member-owners. Anyone living in Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden, Lamoille, Orange, Rutland and Washington counties is eligible to join the Credit Union
