Emily Myers joined the Downer team as the Director in Training. This is a dream come true for this Downer alumni. She was an active part of the Camp Downer family from ages 8 to 21 as a camper, CIT I & II, Staff Aide, Counselor and Program Head. After camp, Emily severed 9 years in U.S. Air Force as an Air Traffic control & Airfield Operations Officer, later a proud military spouse. Together, she and her husband have raised their two children (Jack - 10 & Zoe - 7) in Alaska, Chile and Spain. While they currently reside in Alaska; they will move back to VT after her husband retires from the Air Force. They will make Emily’s hometown of Norwich, VT, their permanent home.
This is Mitch's 40th year at Camp Downer. Add to that his 9 years as a counselor at camps in Maine and Connecticut, and this will be his 48th year in camping. Until his retirement he worked for 36 years as a teacher, school counselor, and principal. His time away from camp is divided between Vermont, Montana, and Florida. When he's home in VT he builds furniture in his basement shop, directs musicals, and spends as much time as possible fishing. The loves of his life are his three grand daughters; Virginia, Audrey, and Brooklyn (all future Downer campers).
I have been involved with camping for over 40 years starting in Maine and Conn in the late 60s. I have three daughters and three granddaughters who are great fun. I spend my non camp time in Montana, Florida and Maine with my husband Mitch. I am a retired math teacher from Missisquoi Valley Union High School. I enjoy quilting, gardening, reading and card making.
