This is the first summer Emily Myers is stepping up as the Director. This is a dream come true for this Downer alumni. She was an active part of the Camp Downer family from ages 8 to 21 as a camper, CIT I & II, Staff Aide, Counselor and Program Head. After camp, Emily severed 9 years in U.S. Air Force as an Air Traffic control & Airfield Operations Officer, later a proud military spouse. Together, she and her husband have raised their two children (Jack - 10 & Zoe - 8) in Alaska, Chile and Spain. Her husband recently retired from the Air Force and they have made Emily?s hometown of Norwich, VT, their permanent home.
This is Mitch's 40th year at Camp Downer. Add to that his 9 years as a counselor at camps in Maine and Connecticut, and this will be his 48th year in camping. Until his retirement he worked for 36 years as a teacher, school counselor, and principal. His time away from camp is divided between Vermont, Montana, and Florida. When he's home in VT he builds furniture in his basement shop, directs musicals, and spends as much time as possible fishing. The loves of his life are his three grand daughters; Virginia, Audrey, and Brooklyn (all future Downer campers).
I have been involved with camping for over 40 years starting in Maine and Conn in the late 60s. I have three daughters and three granddaughters who are great fun. I spend my non camp time in Montana, Florida and Maine with my husband Mitch. I am a retired math teacher from Missisquoi Valley Union High School. I enjoy quilting, gardening, reading and card making.
This will be Alanna's 19th summer at camp, her 11th on staff, and her first as Program Director. After graduating from the University of Vermont with a degree in Art Education, Alanna is ready to bring all of her artsy ideas, knowledge, and experience to the Downer State Forest! From getting jiggy with it in dance class, to helping campers find their inner journalist in journalism, to discovering the next Pablo Picasso in Arts and Crafts, Alanna is beyond excited to share her enthusiasm and passion for art with the Campers of Camp Downer!
This will be Amy's seventh summer working at Camp Downer, and her third summer as the aquatics and nature program head. She loves playing kayak tag on the pond, walking through the Downer forest to see cool plants and wildlife, and -of course- swimming and dancing in the Mitchell pool. Amy graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in Earth and Environmental Science with a concentration in ecosystems. Apart from the summer season, Amy is an outdoor educator based in the hill country of Texas. She loves traveling, hiking, dogs, beaches, and any excuse to play outside. She can't wait to see you at the pool this summer!
This will be Nathan?s 14th summer in the Downer State Forest and his fifth on staff. Nathan spends his life outside of his summers at camp in the beautiful state of Maine. He is an undergraduate student in the School of Marine Sciences at the University of Maine Orono. In the fall, Nathan will be studying abroad at the Darling Marine Center, in Walpole, Maine, where he will get his certification for scientific diving, and will be taking other field intensive courses on the beutiful Damariscotta river estuary. In his free time, he plays for his University?s collegiate rugby team and plays disc golf on his campus? course. As summer gets closer and closer, Nathan gets more and more excited for his new position as Sports Program Head, and for eight weeks filled with disc golfing, fish catching, nature jaunting, arrow launching, rock petting, turtle finding, and that good old Downer cabin living. He cannot wait to see all of your smiling faces this summer, in the place that outshines the sun!
Julia has been counting down the days until she returns to the Downer State Forest after studying abroad in Scotland this past Spring semester. This will be her first summer as Admin Assistant after two years as a counselor, and her eighth summer at camp overall! She is from Ithaca, New York but adores Vermont so much that she spends the rest of the year studying psychology and education at Middlebury College where she will be a senior. She also interns in the college?s Admissions Office, runs many miles, and puts maple syrup on everything. Julia enjoys sunshine, flowers, the Boston Red Sox, ice cream sandwiches, and laughing at every joke. Her favorite activities at camp include attempting to win the Olympics and spending time at the pool. She hopes this summer is filled with improved archery scores, intense softball games, and lots of singing. See you this summer!

Chris has been a part of the camp community since he was 8 years old, coming up to camp from Massachsetts each summer as a camper, then as a Staff Aide, and for the past 3 summers as a counselor. The Downer State Forest is certainly his favorite place on Earth! During the off season, Chris has been working towards an undergraduate degree at the University of Vermont studying English and History, which he will continue in the fall. In his spare time, he loves to play guitar, sing, or make music of any kind! He is so very excited to be able to spend another summer at Camp Downer!

This summer will be Siiri's tenth summer at Downer, and her second as a counselor. As a young camper, her favorite activities were arts and crafts, archery, and journalism, and not much has changed! This fall she will be beginning her freshman year at Syracuse University as an art education major. In her spare time, you can catch her journaling, going to concerts, and showing people pictures of her cats.
Greetings! I currently attend Montpelier High School as a senior, and will be attending the University of Rhode Island in the fall. At age 19, I'm the youngest in my family of five (not including?my dog and three cats). I have two older sisters whom I love dearly. Among the things I'm most passionate about are traveling, live music, and writing. One of my major goals in life so far has been?working to make each new day better?than the last, while trying to have a positive influence on those around me along the way. Although this will be my first time at Camp Downer, I expect to thrive as I grow and learn from fellow campers and staff alike. I am a first-year counselor!
Hiya folks! I?m Sawyer, aka Soyl, and I am just thrilled to be returning to the Downer forest for my 8th summer at camp and my 3rd year on staff. Just recently I spent my time traveling the country in a car I painted myself like a yellow croc (the shoe) camping in national and state parks, as well as WWOOFing in North Carolina. In the non-summer months this coming year you will find me attending the University of Vermont. I?m eager to rebuild gnome homes and spy on tiny bugs as well as listen to the beautiful serenades from the singing class, and to all of camp singing together this summer. Can?t wait to see you there!
Erin Sullivan has been a part of Downer for 8 years now, starting as a camper and going through the CIT I, II, and staff aide programs here at camp. This summer she will be working in the kitchen, and she feels up to the challenge. Erin is also very excited to work alongside some of her closest friends that she?s made over the years at camp. She hopes you have a fantastic experience here in the Downer forest, just like she did as a camper!
